Yesterday, the keyboard would not respond at the login screen. The external HP mouse works fine. Able to click on the screen to get to the login screen, and can shut down the PC from icons. Troubleshooting Process: Booted laptop, pressed function key F5 immediately, got into HP QuickWeb, where the keyboard and mouse both worked.

Tells me the hardware is good, software issue. Searched internet for solutions. Connected external USB keyboard, was able to login at the login screen. External keyboard and external mouse both worked fine in Windows Found recommendation to boot PC while pressing Windows key and space bar key together. Tried this, keyword now works, but mouse is not responding. Both internal and external mouse not functioning.

Tried several external mice, but none of them works. No mouse pointer on the screen. Checked Synaptic website, recommends downloading device driver. Uninstalled device drive via keyboard , rebooted, etc.

Plug in your keyboard and wait a few seconds then test it by hitting the spacebar. Then plug in your mouse. Here’s what didn’t work: Once I typed in the password and it booted to the desktop, I lost Keyboard function again.

I shut down and started again. At the logon screen I selected Ease of Access with the mouse and noticed that Filter Keys was on so I shut it off and I had keyboard function again. When I tested it I also noticed something else, when you hit the spacebar more than once it invokes the Ease of Access menu.
